🌿 Remembering with Love on Celebration Day
Monday 26th May 2025 is Celebration Day, a day to remember and honour the people who have touched our lives and helped shape who we are.
Celebration Day is simply a heartfelt opportunity to pause, reflect, and share stories about the people whose influence lives on within us, even after they’ve gone.
It might be a family member, a friend, a teacher, or even someone from history or culture who helped guide your values, your path, or your sense of self.
Sharing my story:
My Celebration Day story is about a wonderful woman I will call Mrs. T (A lady who became a surrogate Nanna).
We met in the 1970s, after my brother had a serious fall while riding his bike in the woods. Mrs. T, found him, brought him to safety, and made sure he got home. She explained she used to be a nurse during the war and worked part-time as a teacher, in the near-by town. It was a simple act of kindness, but it sparked a bond that would last for decades.
Very soon, I was introduced to her, through my brother. I was a young girl and a bit nervous and wasn’t sure but we clicked instantly. Maybe it was our shared love of animals, the outdoors, or our close birthdays (though many years apart).
Becoming My Bestfriend
Mrs T, lived with her hubby, in an old gamekeeper’s cottage nestled, in the woods at the end of a sandy track, it was an old building, with swallows under the eaves, and a big old front door with an iron key! I think of the kitchen and everything comes to life.
It was a magical place for a quiet child like me. Full of geese, cats, ducks, a goat, a minor-bird and two dogs. It was like stepping into a storybook! The geese were always on guard duty at the top of the track, and I would help to find all the eggs with big golden yellow yolks!
Family History
Mrs. T had a grown-up family and grandchildren, she taught me how to bake, how to sew, and how to laugh at myself. She supported me through my very difficult teenage years; As a teenager, she explained Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) long before it was widely discussed and we both had it! Whenever I bake a Victoria Sponge, I think of her, the peaceful cosy cottage, animals, woodlands, and birdsong.
She was honest, warm and wise and she would put me straight, if I needed the guidance! I felt safe in her presence, trusted, liked and always welcome. Even after I left home, we stayed in touch. Her birthday card was the one I wanted to arrive early! After I left home, she would see my parents from time to time and always stopped to ask after my brother and I.
Love To Last A Lifetime
Our friendship lasted until the day she passed away, but her memory has never faded.
Thank you “J” for being my safe place, I have so many wonderful memories! I miss you very much. xx

All I ask is Just take a moment to remember — and maybe share, the stories of those who’ve shaped your journey. Light a candle, bake a cake, walk somewhere they loved, or talk about them with someone new.
